What is Full Mouth Rehabilitation?
Full mouth rehabilitation is correction of all the teeth in the mouth which could be having one issue or the other. These include the following:
- Replacement of missing teeth
- Gum treatment and surgeries
- Veneers and laminates
- Fillings and Cosmetic procedures
- Treatment of worn down teeth
- Improvement in chewing capacity and speech enhancement
All my teeth are severely worn down. Can they be corrected?
Most severely worn down teeth can be corrected and this procedure is known as Full mouth rehabilitation.
What are the causes of severely worn down teeth?
The causes of severely worn down teeth are multifactorial and no on e specific reason can be attributed to severely worn down teeth. However, few of the suggested reasons are:
- Bruxism
- Coarser diets
- Rise in soft drink consumption
- Among older individuals, lifestyle changes and chronic diseases that are controlled with medications that may, in turn, result in regurgitation and/or dry mouth
What treatment is done in severely worn down teeth?
- After careful evaluation of the mouth and the temporomandibular joints is made, x rays are taken to ensure that severe damage to the joints is not there.
- Muscle tenderness around the jaw area is checked
- The overall health of the gums and the teeth is checked and any treatment required to ensure the basic health of the teeth and the gums is given.
- A splint is generally given for a few weeks. During this time, mockup of the teeth is made and the models are studied to decide the final plan of the treatment.
- This is evaluated later to see if the person has adapted to the change in the bite.
- After the patient is comfortable with the new bite, the teeth are filed down and crowns or bridges are given on them.
